Crew Biography For Harra, Kojiro Kan

Full Name: Kojiro Kan Harra
Current Rank Lieutenant (JG)
Position(s) held Science officer
Species human
Gender Male
Age 30
Height 5'10
Weight 192lbs
Appearance About average in height, for a man, but a little on the pudgy side. Kojiro likes to eat good food and drink a little and be jovial, but sometimes he’s a bit too much of a food fan. His hair is black, and he is Japanese. His hair is usually worn slightly longish, for a man, but still cut above the collar to be considered within the regulations standards. Right now, it is rather short though with some longish bangs.
Personality Kojiro is one of those whom you might always see smiling. He enjoys life, though he has had some minor set-backs along the way. He is always up for fun! He likes having get-togethers with his friends and little daughter and loves it even more, when good food is available. He is very eccentric, but also a good scientist. Science has been something he has been interested in since boyhood and he especially is interested in DNA studies and the genetic makeup of different species. He has even ‘invented’ some new life forms, such as a special Valentine’s day rose that seems to only be a stem within the hydroponics material in its vase, but on the day before Valentine’s day, it puts on a bud and the bud opens and stays open throughout the next day and then closes again when St. Valentine’s day is over. He also recognizes that he is an eccentric, unusual person, so he usually takes a liking to other things that are unusual. While on his first assignment, aboard the USS London, he became involved in a project that involved some small crab-like creatures that fed on the outer hull of the ship and only would live where the conditions were exactly like the vacuum of space. When the actual problem of the space crabs had been taken care of, a few of them were kept by the science department, while a few others were sent back to Starfleet Research and Development and that left an extra few, which Kojiro kept in a tiny containment box that he called his ‘space crab farm’ and he still has it. It is kind of a version of a normal Earth ant farm, but more eccentric, just as Kojiro himself is.
Background Kojiro Kan Harra was born in the year 2360 to Kiano and Yvonne Harra of Tsukuba, Japan. His father was a civilian medical scientist, though he never ventured into space. Kojiro was rather a surprise baby. His older brother, Samuel was already in his late teens at the time of Kojiro’s birth.
Kojiro attended both primary schooling in Tsukuba, but when he was 10, his father wanted him to expand his knowledge from just studying science in Japan, and young Kojiro was sent to a prep school in England to finish up his education.
Kojiro knew and understood nearly no English when he first enrolled in his new school, but he quickly made a friend by the name of Oliver Aston. Oliver also had an active interest in scientist, but had the unfortunate habit of choosing the projects that ended up going ‘boom’ and so he was required, by the school, to conduct his small projects in an abandoned shed on the campus grounds. Kojiro often found himself out in this shed, too, helping the boy and discovering ways to help the projects succeed, rather than explode in a small, but dangerous chemical fire. This was how Kojiro learned English. He and his friend Oliver shared a dorm with two other boys, who were also Oliver’s friends and they taught the eccentric Japanese boy to speak and understand English fluently.
Also at this English prep school, Kojiro met the love of his life. While his three friends were beginning to have interest in girls, he found his soul mate right from the start. She was unusually pretty, in his eyes, and she was eccentric and she was unafraid to voice her opinion on subjects and her name was Elka. Kojiro and Elka’s case was an unusual and uncommon case of love at first sight. When they became an item, Kojiro never imagined himself with another girlfriend and they remained together throughout their years in school. They married soon after graduation and attended a nearby college in England. They both attained an associates degree, when Kojiro was approached by someone from the science department of Starfleet and offered him a chance to attend the Academy. Kojiro was excited and ran home to tell Elka and the two of them both passed their entrance exams.
Kojiro had no problem at all in speeding through his curriculum at Starfleet Academy, though the medical department was usually scolding him for often celebrating great marks, by indulging in sweets or other good foods. Kojiro graduated from the Academy in 3 years, but he was ahead of Elka and he had to leave on a small assignment, but he had returned for the birth of their daughter, Amika Susan Harra, that summer and he was granted a few months of leave time to care for his infant daughter, while Elka finished up at the Academy.
Kojiro and Elka were both placed on a science vessel that was studying a star that had just gone red giant. Elka took the position of counselor, but she was rarely busy on such a small ship with such a small crew that she could devote all needed attention toward Amika. After a two year mission on the science vessel, Kojiro and Elka were transferred to the USS London as Ensigns in science and counseling. This is where their real work began, and it was during this assignment that Kojiro did his work in ridding the hull of the ship from the strange space crabs, without actually harming or killing all of them and it was then that he got his small space crab farm.
During their first year aboard the USS London, Kojiro and Elka discovered that they were going to have another child and later, they found out that they were to have another little girl. Kojiro wanted to name her Mina, but tragedy struck and Elka was killed while the ship was on a mission to the outpost planet of Krios, which was in a civil upheaval. Kojiro was devastated by the loss of his wife and had a hard time coping. He took too much to alcohol in some cases, to ease his mind, but he knew that it wouldn’t help at all. He tried to socialize with the crew and not think about the tragedy, but that wasn’t helping 100% either. So, when the ship made a visit to Earth, Kojiro took the counseling department’s suggestion and took and extended leave of absence. He returned to his parents’ home in Japan with Amika and enrolled the little girl in his old primary school, while he sought help for himself.
Help, for Kojiro, took quite a while and he went through some major peaks and valleys. Not long after moving back to Tsukuba, he entered into a whirlwind romance with one of his childhood friends from long ago. They moved in together, but Kojiro’s parents demanded that he leave Amika with them, because they had a feeling that this rebound romance could be possibly confusing to the now 4 year-old.
Kojiro and his new love, Mamasi Hiro progressed their relationship quickly and they lasted for a year and a half, but in the end, Kojiro’s parents were correct about the spontaneous relationship not being meant to last, but after it all, Kojiro felt that he could move on without drowning in his grief for Elka. He took Amika with him again and went back to Starfleet. He was placed again, on a small science vessel, where he closely studied genetics, his great interest and indirectly invented a couple of new species, by the crossing of two already known species. He wrote several documents on the lives of these new creatures and submitted them to Starfleet Science and Research. He was then called back to Starfleet Command, and when he returned, he was directed back to Tsukuba, where he discovered that he had unintentionally left Mamasi pregnant and he now had a second daughter to support.
Though Kojiro and Mamasi already knew, at this time, that a marriage between them wouldn’t work, they decided on a joint custody of their daughter, Minako, that would run every-other year, as opposed to each parent having the child six months out of each year, with Kojiro’s service to Starfleet making that nearly impossible.
Kojiro took both of his daughters that year on his next assignment that had him on a Constitution class ship, the USS Lincoln, which had other officers that had families and small children. Kojiro was usually busy and promoted to Lieutenant JG on this ship, while Amika, at 6 began to really enjoy schooling. Minako was also well cared for in the nursery section of the education department onboard, but the ship ran into some difficulties with pirates and Kojiro was unable to hand Minako back to Mamasi, as was their custody agreement, until two years later instead of one. As a result, Kojiro allowed Mamasi to take an extra year with their daughter as well, so there would be no more damaging feelings.
After his assignment onboard the Lincoln was complete, Kojiro requested that he be placed back on the London. He and Amika lived at Starfleet Headquarters in San Francisco for a short time, until his assignment came through and he returns to the ship, ready to take on the universe once again.
