Crew Biography For Abbott, Wayne Allen

Full Name: Wayne Allen Abbott
Current Rank Lieutenant
Position(s) held Engineer
Species Human
Gender Male
Age 34
Height 5'11
Weight 175
Appearance Standing about 6 foot tall Wayne has short cropped brownish-blond hair with bluish-green eyes (when they can bee seen) that are usually covered by a straight black or white cloth tied around his head. This completely covers his eye sockets and the bridge of his nose. Even though it appears as if he cannot see; he can see perfectly. Wayne works himself hard to stay in shape, and the hard work pays off.
Personality Wayne is the quiet observer at first, though when he gets to know others he can become quite the chatter, bringing about facts about Earth that most people have no knowledge of, or is notched up to ancient history, all though for him it is just like yesterday. He is still getting used to the idea of other beings and space travel though it amazes him; it is still a relatively new concept to him.
Background Wayne Allen Abbott was born on July 18, 1978 in Warrensburg, Mo. In the 27 years he had been on Earth he had lived in many different places, been a member of the United States Navy, and was now living in a small town in the middle of no where of Southeastern Colorado. At the moment he was work in a Gift shop truck stop, it had been a normal night in the Gift Shop. It was October 31, 2005, and it had been a slow Halloween night. The night went well enough for not having anything to do, and only a few night owl customers. In the morning, Shift Change went well, and his cash drawer had once again zeroed for the night. Up to this point nothing seemed out of play or different, but something felt weird, he felt as if he was being watched. His van was empty but for him and there were only a few cars on the road, usually there were more than this, as while he was home, everyone else was heading in to work. He took it as nothing blaming it on being tired. Once home he ate some cereal then went to sleep. Amazingly, the phone never rang and he slept great for the first time in awhile. He started to wake up and things started to register as being different. The bed felt more like a hard sheet of plastic, the covers were not his flannel sheets, or his imitation mink blanket from Korea. All this was weird but the weirdest of all was that he was lying on his back, which just did not happen, he would always wake up feeling as if he was falling straight up when he feel asleep flat on his back. He tried to open his eyes and found them covered with bandages and he smelled the strong stench of antiseptic. He tried to sense around himself to see if he could figure out if he was alone or if someone was there. He could feel the air moving as if disturbed by the presence of others moving or maybe just one other moving, he was not sure. The weirdness of everything was distorting his other senses. He started to wonder if this was just a dream and he was not actually awake yet. To find out he tried to roll onto his side. That is when the world erupted into millions of tiny little stars. It was somewhere inside his head, or was it outside his head? Wherever it was, it hurt, not like bright lights in darkness hurt until the eyes could adjust to them; it was more like his head had been pushed through a brick wall. Everything hurt and now he was starting to feel dizzy and nauseous. He groaned and lay back down on the bed. He started reaching around to find something to use for balance, but could not find anything. There was no headboard, nightstand, or anything that might be next to a bed in a hospital. In fact, it almost seemed that the bed was floating off the ground. Finally, he decided to call out, “Hello”. His voice sounded raspy and dry from lack of water, and a bit muffled as if the bandages covered his ears and therefore blocked sound. He tried to make himself salivate and found it to be no easy task. After a bit, he tried again, “hello”. This time it sounded better, but still a bit raspy.

Soon from somewhere to his right, in what sounded like another room, “Ahh you are awake, after the first week I started to wonder if there was more damage than I could find, from the look of that strange stasis pod we found you in, I thought you may not have survived as well I first thought. So tell me how do you feel?”

At first, he could not understand how this person could be so calm about a person finally waking up from a coma, but then decided that she was probably a doctor and used to situations like this. “I feel like someone has shoved my head through a wall, and I am thirsty.”

“Well I am not surprised that you would be thirsty. Saline drips keep the body hydrated but do nothing for a persons thirst, after 4 weeks in here and who knows how long in that stasis pod, I can imagine you have quite a thirst,” as she said this, she hands him a glass of water and helps him sit up to drink it. “So tell me, what is your name, we haven’t been able to find any record of you in the Databases.”

Sitting up, Wayne looks around as if he could see his surroundings, he says, “My name is Wayne Abbott, and you are?”

“I am Doctor Serena Kara.”

“I don’t know if my name will help your search or not. I am not sure where I am or how long I have been out of it. The last thing I remember is going to sleep in my bed, then waking up here.”

“Hrmm…,” What was the stardate?” The Doctor asks.

“The Stardate, um what is that, the Date was October 31, 2005?”

“Oh, no wonder we could not find anything on you we did not go back near far enough. That was about 370 years ago.”

The glass of water drops to the ground, making a mess of the blanket covering him, as well as the floor. As Wayne takes in this new information he almost appears to be about to faint. The Doctor catches him and helps him lay down. In a shocked, blown away voice he asks, “Three hundred and seventy years, how could I have survived that long?”

After a few minutes in which Wayne could feel the doctors’ arm waving over him, “Well that would be thanks to that stasis pod we found you in, it was on an uninhabited planet that we found you. We believe the race that lived there died out about 200 years ago, we had hoped that perhaps you were one of them, but I guess that idea is out the window. What planet are you from?”

Trying to listen over the pain in his head, Wayne almost blows up at the calm of the question, “What Planet? Earth of course, where else could I be from, I lived in Hugo Colorado, on Earth. So you are telling me that I was abducted by aliens and after 170 years they all died leaving me to sit in some stasis pod till someone else came along to find me. Okay where are the Cameras? Is this where you tell me to smile, because I am on Candid Camera?”

“Please Wayne clam down, I know this must all be shocking and is leaving you feeling hurt and confused, but getting angry isn’t going to help. We will figure out what happened.”

Trying to calm down, Wayne focuses on his breathing and lets his thoughts line themselves up. Soon he feels himself start to drift off to sleep, but this is not one of those normal sleeps that happen on a regular basis, at first, he hopes this is all some crazy nightmare and that the cereal or milk was bad, but the more he thinks about it the less dream like it starts to become. 375 years, everyone he knew is now dead and gone, his family is gone, no one would probably even wonder about him now, just that weird relative that disappeared one day and was never seen again. Soon images start to pass by his mind’s eye. Images of strange looking creatures walking by a window that he can barely see through, they seem to be looking at him like a manikin in a store window or animal at a zoo. Suddenly the container he is in tilts backwards and he can see that he is not standing in a window like a manikin, but is in some type of tube. He is being moved down many halls and after many turns, he stops trying to remember them. Soon he arrives in a large room with more of the creatures watching above through windows like in an operating room. Looking around he finds out that it is some type of operating room, as there are medical tools laid out on trays around him. The creatures open up the tube and lay him on a table. Though he cannot feel anything that they are doing, he is aware that they are opening up his body and examining the way it works. After a while of this, everything seeming to be happening to someone else, he is put back in the tube. As he is being moved back to his storage location, he looks at himself and can see that there are no marks on his body from where he was opened up, and then he feels himself drifting off into a deep sleep. When he wakes up, it is to the sound of a few people talking in the background about him. He sits up and faces the direction that the voices are coming from to try to hear more clearly what they are saying. They are discussing what they are going to do with him. It sounds like they want to send him back to earth to a hospital to gain more assistance than they can provide on a medical ship, way out in the Neutral Zone. It seems that they are going to look for a ship headed back to Earth and transfer him to it. Not liking being talked about, he decides it is time to move around and make his presence known. He finds that he is wearing some kind of coveralls, but has no shoes on. So hoping that the floor is not cold, he swings his legs over the side and slides down to the floor. When he touches the floor with his feet, he finds that it is neither cold nor warm, so attempts to stand. After 370 years of not moving, he finds that he has little to no strength in his legs, and soon finds the floor with his backside. Cursing from his now sore bottom, he reaches up to the bed and lifts himself back up. Leaning heavily on the bed, he starts moving his legs around trying to get the strength back in them.

Having heard the sound of him fall and cursing the doctor and other voices come in to investigate. “So just could not wait for help, you had to get up and move on your own,” says the Doctor, in a somewhat exasperated, but humour filled tone.

“Of course I was born in Missouri, I am a stubborn mule and will always do things the hard way,” Wayne says this trying to keep his tone as humorous as the Doctor’s was.

“Humans will never learn that it is more logical to ask for help in situations like this,” says the Doctor again in the same tone as before.

“Hrmm well I guess that answers one of my questions I was going to ask you. So there are people out there other than humans. I hope you are not like the ones who took me from Earth, they did some stuff to me, tore me open and watched my body work, like I was some kind of robot or something that they built and was showing off.”

“I take it you are starting to remember things; I sensed some heightened periods of emotion coming from you after you fell asleep the other day.”

“The ‘Other Day’, how long was I out this time?”

“Only for two days, nothing to be worried about after 376 years. Tell me are you having anymore pain?”

“No, just confusion and frustration now, I just want to get moving and try to get back to life, I know it won’t be the same, but I don’t want to sit around anymore.”

“Well I can understand that, and we are planning to send you back to Earth. Once there you should be able to get some new eyes or a Visor. Then you will be able to move on to something maybe even join Star Fleet.”

“New eyes, what is that supposed to mean what is wrong with my eyes?”

“Oh, I guess you have not gotten that far in your memories yet. Well at some point before we found you, there must have been some kind of incident. When we found you, there was a lot of damage to your face, including your eyes, though we were able to repair them, the chance of being able to see is slim. The damage seems to have been done by some kind of animal, but there is no sign of anything having breached your stasis pod.”

“Gessh this just keeps getting better and better. How does this visor thing work, or the new eyes you were talking about?”

“Well it is not my actual area of expertise, but my understanding of it is that it takes readings and sends the information directly into your brain where it is processed as if you were seeing through your real eyes. I am told that it is the same with the new eyes, but I have never seen any evidence of that type of fix.”

“Well that does not seem to be all that bad, is the ship normally this noisy? I mean the walls must be paper thin, it seems like I am in a stadium full of people all talking at the same time.”

“Noisy, it is rather quiet today, and the ships bulkheads are at the least a foot thick at their narrowest points, wait a minute, I hadn’t thought to check for that, but perhaps…, yes you do show quite a strong ability.”

The doctor pauses and Wayne can hear buttons being pressed and senses the doctor waiving her arm or something around his head.

“Um what ability am I showing strongly?”

“Oh, forgive me; it is just that I have never seen these types of readings from someone of your species. You are showing strong psionic abilities.”

“Psionics you mean like telepathy, telekinesis, and stuff like that?”

“Yes those are some forms of psionics. So you are familiar with psionics, did you already know of your own abilities?”

“Nope had suspicions, but never had any proof, I have always been somewhat of a mystic by nature. Always looking at the world in a different light than most people, I was always a bit of an outsider because of me views.”

“Well I can tell you that in Vulcan society, you would have been praised and seen as very gifted. In fact, with your strength, I can think of many different groups that would love to have you join them.”

“Yeah, I can imagine there are many on Earth, as long as it has not changed too much there. I was a member of the United States Navy, in my time, and always had my suspicions about the secret operations that the government were conducting.”

“Well you will have to discuss that kind of stuff with the other humans, being that I am Vulcan I am not as familiar with your planets history as they would be. We are currently looking for a ship that will transport you back to Earth. We would take you back ourselves but the trip would put us way out of our way. Moreover, I do not think you would enjoy a Medical ship, you seem to like to keep moving and we do not move that much, unless we are responding to an emergency. However, for now you will be my guest, as we do not have any private rooms available now. So tell me about yourself, what was your job before you were taken from Earth?”

“Well as I said before I had been in the US Navy, I had worked as a photographer most of the 8 years, but I also worked on helicopters. After 8 years, I got out, moved into the civilian world, and started working in a store that catered to Truckers. I worked the late shift 12am to 8 am.”

“What are truckers?”

“Oh yeah, I didn’t think about you not knowing what they are, they are the people responsible for getting merchandise from a factory to the stores that sale them, or to other factories to be combined with other merchandise.”

“Oh okay, kind of like cargo ships and how is that your store catered to them?”

“Well we provided them with food and gifts to take home or just somewhere to rest while on the roads. Trucking is a hard life and after a full day of driving they pull into a truck stop to rest, eat, and talk to other truckers to find out what the weather was like where they were going or had just come from.”

“Oh, that would be like a Star base promenade for us. That is where we do are R&R most of the time, that or we find transport back to our home worlds. Okay what is a helicopter.”

“A helicopter is a flying vehicle that achieves flight by a set of propellers that sit on the top of the body of the aircraft.”

“Interesting, I wonder if the computer has anything on this stuff that you are talking about.” As Serena says this, Wayne again hears the sounds of buttons being pressed. “Hrmm there are some articles here about some of the stuff you are talking about, though they are historians’ views of that time. Hrmm I wonder,” more buttons being pressed.

Suddenly Wayne is seeing the screen as though it is right in front of his face though it is at least 20 meters away. “Yes that is a helicopter and that is a good example of one the bigger trucking companies.”

“Wait what do you mean you, are you seeing the screen? You are not physically able to see it”

“But I am, it is like it is right here in front of me, I can see the screen, and it seems to scroll when I want it to, and I can even change how I see it.”

Serena is at his side in a flash waving her arm around his head and murmuring to herself.

“What are you doing, Serena, what is that that thing you are waving around my head?”

“You mean you can see this as well,” she holds the scanner from her tri-corder in front of his face.

“Yes I can see it, I know I shouldn’t be able to but I can.”

“Hrmm okay, let see here, what is different? Well you are now wearing the rings that we found in the pod; I thought maybe that you would feel more comfortable having what I thought to be something of yours. Shortly after putting them on your fingers, your healing rate did double, let us see something, pull the rings off, and tell me if you can still see.”

Wayne pulls the rings off and almost exactly the same time the eagle ring leaves his finger his vision disappears. “Huh, that has never happened before these are the same rings I have always worn, though wait,” puts the ring back on, “ah yes, there is something different, there was never a crystal in the ring.”

“Well let us scan this crystal then. Perhaps we can figure out how it is allowing you to see. You never know you may have helped us find a new way to help people who become blind.”

“The Lord only knows, but this is amazing not only can I see, but I seem to be able to communicate with computers, I wonder…” As he pauses, a glass of water starts floating to him from across the room, and as he grabs it from thin air Wayne smiles mischievously. “What I could have done with these abilities during my time. The possibilities would have been endless, but now I am sure this is an everyday thing right?”

“No, not really, this is not something that occurs everyday. In fact, I do not know of any record of one person having multiple abilities such as you are manifesting. Hrmm this brings about a completely new realm of study. I am going to have to send all of my test and samples with you to give to the doctors on Earth. I believe they will want to study this. Though I hope for you sake, this doesn’t stop you from moving on with your life, but you may have to make regular trips to a doctor part of your new life.”

“Well as long as I don’t have to stay put on Earth, if I am going to live in the space age then I want to explore space.”

That evening a ship was found that they could be rendezvous with that was headed for Earth in a week. During this time, Serena performed more test and studies. Wayne started learning how to use his new vision, and his new abilities. While he was learning, he found other abilities that he could tap into like his Telekinesis and tele-mechanics, these being telepathy, Pyro-kinesis, Hydro-kinesis, teleportation, levitation of himself and others. At the end of the week, Wayne boarded the new ship the USS Victory. It was a short and uneventful trip back to Earth, during which he stayed mostly to himself not wanting to cause too much of a stir with his differences. He did visit their crew lounge a few times, but other than that, he stayed in his quarters practicing some meditation techniques that Serena had taught him to help him quiet the many voices or thoughts that he was picking up. When he arrived at the Star base orbiting Earth everything changed. A crewmember escorted him to one of the airlocks and was introduced to Commander Doctor Rizeska Namori. After the introductions Wayne handed over the large rolling case that Serena had given him just before his departure from the medical ship. “These are the samples and results that Dr. Kara performed while I was on board the medical ship. She said that I should hand them over to you when we met.”

“Yes, she told me you would have them, this will make our work much easier. As well, this will keep us from having to redo all of those same tests over again.”

“Yes, I would prefer to not have to go through everything again. I am hoping that the further testing will not take to long, I really want to just get on with my new life.”

“Have you thought of what you want to do, I mean with your abilities, I know of at least three groups that have requested a meeting with you.”

“Really, three already, wow, I guess I am already a bit of a celebrity then. Well, do not worry I will not let it go to my head. Actually, I was thinking of linguistics. It is something I have always been interested in, but never had the time to do. During my time linguistics was not a good way to make a comfortable living.”

“Yes, about the time thing, let us keep that somewhat quiet, I think it could cause a few problems, if to much word got out about that.”

“Um okay, but I don’t want to live a lie, I am not from this time, but I am willing to learn the new cultures, and lifestyles, but I want people to understand that I am still me, a person way out of his time.”

“I can understand and respect that Wayne, but for now let us keep it between us and those powers that already know of it. For now, most people do not know that you are from another time. The popular knowledge being told is that you are the only survivor of a ship that crashed on that planet, and that it is due to being in that stasis pod at the time of the crash.”
“Ah, so there is already a story being generated about me. Very well then, I will keep with the story, but I do not like the idea of having to live that way.”

“I understand Wayne, but sometimes we must do what we do not like if only for a short while. Also I would suggest not showing off your abilities, I think that they could cause even more of a stir than you not being from this time.”

“Yeah, I was already thinking that, in fact Dr. Kara, showed me a few meditation techniques to quiet my mind and to better control my abilities.”

“Ah the good Dr. Kara, she is one of our best. As for the time line of our work, I believe only two months should be needed, then we can get you into whatever area that interest you. The three that have already contacted me for a meet with you are Star Fleet Intelligence, Security, and Engineering.”

“Intel, I am not interested in, Security just is not really me, and Engineering sounds interesting. I am not sure though, but then you said I have two months at least to figure it out.”

“Yes, time is on your side here, I will at the very least arrange meetings with the different groups, it is always easier to make a decision fully informed of the pros and cons.”

“True and I will at least listen to them.”

After the two months were over, Dr. Namori, released Wayne to go on to whatever he desired. Starfleet Intelligence did their best to recruit him, saying that with his skills he would be one of the best. Wayne refused them at every turn; Intel was not where he wanted to work. Security was to combative for him, though he did chose to learn basic hand to hand, and other combat skills that would at least give him a fair chance if anything came up that he needed them for. Though engineering was interesting, the hours seemed to long for him. Therefore, Linguistics is where he finally decided to ask for.

Soon Starfleet found that he was well suited for this department, during the few first months of training Wayne took on three languages, Vulcan, Romulan, and Klingon. He then spent the rest of his time perfecting these three, while learning others and gaining the basics for properly asserting ones self into any language he found himself involved with. He also found that his telepathy helped him to figure out what people were trying to say even if he did not understand their language. He found that on the psychic level all language had a basic base. This gave him a natural, or unnatural as some felt, insight into Linguistics. After five years of training and getting used to the new culture and time period, Wayne perfected the use of Vulcan, Romulan, and Klingon, as well as learning Andorian, and Cardassian. After the five years he spent at the Academy, it came time to pick his first assignment, he was given the choice of staying on Earth, and working with the Intel Department as a linguist, but he new that they were just still trying to get him into Intel. Wayne wanted some adventure, and he found that adventure. His first command was to be the USS London. After a year on the London, Wayne has grown more accustomed to work in this new era, he has gone back in time during a mission, and come back forward in time. He has also learned that not only is he out of his time, he is from a different dimension or plane of existence, or something like that. Also at one time, a member of the Q Continuum named Sovarian was watching over him. Wayne is still trying to figure out all of this, but with his ability to communicate with computers he is able to record into the computer what he sees in his mind. This has helped him to better try and figure out his past. Also during a ball on Starbase 182, Wayne ran into someone from his past, or at least is apart of his past. As he learns more about who he is, and about Lt Jessica Mackie, his connection to this dimension and time period, Wayne learns that the line between space, time and reality is very fine indeed.
